History

Jackson Guitars was founded in 1980 by Grover Jackson, who had previously obtained part ownership of Charvel's Guitar Repair. The company's origins trace back to a collaboration between Jackson, guitarist Randy Rhoads, and Jackson's team, which resulted in the creation of the innovative Concorde guitar. Throughout the 1980s heavy metal heyday, Jackson became known for its high-quality, American-made, custom instruments used by many popular guitarists. In the 1990s, Jackson began producing less expensive, Asian-made versions of their designs. Fender purchased Jackson in 2002 and moved U.S. operations to the Fender factory in California, while budget models are now made in Indonesia and China.
